Pastoralia Important Lines

I have to admit i am not feeling my best.

This line is important because it talks about someone who doesn’t feel well. He cannot see the difference between the good and the bad things that are suppose to happen in human’s way of living.

Every morning, a new goat, just killed, sits in our big slot.

It seems to me that they might live or work in a place where dirty stuff appear In other words that it is not a clean nor healthy environment.

I am sitting back on my haunches, waiting for people to poke in their heads.

He is just waiting for things to happen by it self. People don’t want to see what he is doing in the cave they work in. Not making any profit wont help him feed his family.

“Bastard” she says, and hits me with the flint.

This line is important because it shows that Janet is not a good co-worker. She used to hit and mistreat the narrator which is not good in a person who probably has family members.

Next morning in the big slot is a goat and in the little slot a rabbit and a note addressed to distribution………

This shows that now they have more work to do since long time ago. Not only working with death goats but also with rabbits. But why ? If no one still poking their heads to see what they do.

I’m not paying her to have nice traits. But guess what, i am paying her to do consistently good work. Is she ?? Doing consistently good work ?? She is not.

It seems that in order to get the work done, they need Janet even though she is not doing it very well. So why doesn’t he fired her. It might be impossible to do ??

” Don’t you even come into my work place and start swearing “

Janet’s son Bradly came into the cave without paying. And began to curse when he was not suppose to. Because his mom could stay with no job.

” I didnt steal nothing Ma “

Bradly does things that are out of the normal. He consumes drugs and steal things to sell it and then buy more substances. But he doesn’t know that he is killing his self little by little

” Hey sorry about yesterday “

Janet started to change her way of treating others. She gave the narrator an apology about what happened with her son the day before. This could bring positive effects between them.

She cant do that. She cant take a sick day if she is not sick.

It seems that Janet went back to the old her. She doesnt know that she really needs that job to take care of her sick mother and her son .

” Jesus Christ ” Janet Mumbles

She was being rude to a a family that went into the cave. She could defenitely lose her job, since she is mistreating the people that went in there since long time ago no one poke in their heads.

You freak you break my heart…. A note from Janet says.

The narrator got tired of this situation. Janet got kicked out of the job. What she is going to do now ?

Homework 03/25/2010

Part 1: Reading

Finish your story. Don’t forget to annotate… There is one more presentation to go!

Part 2: Writing

Explain how the concepts in your outcome from this week are related to your story. Do this in at least two paragraphs. Don’t forget to say what story you are reading and what outcome you are working with.

The name of my story is Pastoralia. Its is about two co-workers who doesn’t get along at all. Janet has a bad temper and the cave man lies when we needs to send their evaluation form to the boss. They both have sick family members and their job doesn’t seem to be easy, since no one goes into the cave to see what their doing. Janet loves to speak English when she is not suppose to. That can lead her to loose her job.

This week my group worked of outcome 19 which is about sociological imagination. One day Janet’s son Bradly came into the cave without paying. They were both speaking in English and the cave man couldn’t done anything to stop them. Bradly went to the cave to ask her mom to buy drugs. This is a personal issue because he is risking his own life. And this connects to public issue because addiction can lead to death of many people can cant quit drugs. Also influence among people that is around him. Another personal problem is with Janet, she is doing things that she is not suppose to do. In a public issue this could lead to an increase of unemployment rate and at the end they wont have the opportunity to make the money they need in order to help their families.

Homework 03/18/2010

What is the name of you story ?

The name of my story is Pastoralia

What Outcome did your group pick for this week ?

My group picked outcome 18 for this week.

In one at least two paragraphs, explain how the outcome is related to your story.

Outcome 18 was about moral dilemma, altruism and egoism. My story shows moral dilemma because the narrator needed to make a decision out of the two. One protect Janet or protect his job. Since he was lying in the evaluation that he needed to fill for Janet. If his boss knew what was happening he could lose his job. In the same way it shows egoism because Janet only cared about herself, she didnt care about the narrator’s life and the things he did. She wasn’t taking her job seriously since Janet spoke English when she couldn’t speak at all.

    Homework 03/04/2010

Is Walmart Good for America? Who in the film would say yes? Who in the film would say no? Why/Why not?

I personally think that Walmart is good for America for several reasons. One of them is because they provide us with very low prices that most of us are able to afford at any time. This makes us want to buy the goods and obtain the services that we really need. Every year Walmart makes a lot money and more Americans are accomplished by what Walmart has to offer them. In this case China will say that Walmart is good for America because since China is making the product for them Walmart makes a lot profit but they also need to give part of that money to China. So more capital is sent to China than the one the USA is making out of Walmart services. But the other businesses will say that Walmart is not good for America since they are a big competition to these businesses and its not easy to defeat it because the prices they offer are incomparable.

    Homework 03/01/2010

    Letter

    Dear Mr Dolan,

Last week outcome was, Student applies sociological imagination to their own lives and to the lives of others. In order for me to accomplish this outcome i needed to understand what sociology is. Sociology focuses on the human behavior. And what does sociological imagination has to do with it. Well it has to do with the personal troubles and public issues. On how both of them affect our lives. I showed this by doing a time line that represented my personal troubles and the public issues that were happening around that time. I also wrote a flash fiction story that was based on a picture that need it to use it as a sociological imagination. Since this happened now im able to see what sociology is all about. I feel comfortable talking about this theme but also0 applying it to my own life and the lives of others.

    Homework 02/24/2010

    Part 1:

    Personal Trouble

    • In the town this lady lives, its full of poverty.
    • This lady wants to live, she looks sad and worried.
    • She is thinking about death since the soldiers are pointing at her with the weapons.
    • She is just asking for people and the flower she has on her hands represents it.

    Connections

    • Since the lady doesn’t have any rights the government doesn’t listen to what she has to say. And this makes her inferior.
    • The flower represents peace to the war going on in the country. She is trying to find a way to stop it.
    • This lady is poor and her house has been destroyed because she didnt have money to pay for it. And she wants to find a way to stop it. Its not fair for the government to do this. Where they going to live ??
    • The war was more important than the people living in the country. Soldiers were acting rude.

    Public Issue

    • There is a war going on in the country.
    • The government doesn’t listen to what people has to say.
    • Home are being destroyed since people doesn’t have money to pay rent.
    • No food available.
    • No money to give out since all was used for he war.

    Part 2:

Once upon time in a country named Framcutti there was a tremendous war going on. Every soldier was out there trying to disturb and ruin people’s lives. A woman named Rufina woke up in the morning, when she noticed she was thrown by the soldiers to sleep with the dirty pigs in the town she lived in. The soldier’s body were full of hair and eyes every where. No one could make up their minds. During that moment they were the kings of Framcutti. Couple days later the government decided to take people’s rights away from them, because they didnt have time to listen to the stupid things they had to say. Rufina was worried about what was happening so she found a white rose that for her represented peace. All the ugly soldiers pointed at her with weapons trying to get rid of her. She was trying to stop this war and this injustice to end. The soldiers got mad and they sent the dirty pigs to destroy all the houses by eating every single piece of it. The pigs did their job but they couldn’t handle and explode their inside around the whole country. Ghosts were around Rufina’s body and little by little she started dying since she ended up poor, with no home and no food. The war kept on going because the government enjoyed watching other people suffering when all they wanted was peace. But most importantly since the soldiers were not normal they ate the pigs organs as a way of celebrating what they have done.

    Part 3:

Write a reflection about your story that explains how your story shows sociological imagination. My story shows the sociological imagination between personal trouble and public issue. For example Rufina’s rights were taking away by the government since they didnt have time to listen to what she has to say. The government made her feel inferior. The war in Framcutti was most important than the people living their. In other words the government care about itself , and find all the ways to be happy without thinking about others. Selfish is the word that describes them. Also Rufina ended up poor since the soldiers sent the dirty pigs to get rid of all the houses in the town.

    Part 4:

Finish your timeline and email it to Dolan at dolanbihs@gmail.com .

    Part 2: Report

    1. List 10 headlines.

    • Israeli Jets, in answer to attacks, bombs guerrilla bases in Lebanon.
    • MOVE BY MOSCOW DEPLORED IN WEST.
    • Nicaraguans Say the Army Had a Hand in Attack.
    • Serbs Pound a U.N Position in Sarajevo.
    • Zulu leader Enlists the king in challenge to South Africa.

    • Berlin Journal; Rail ramps spared, to tell their sickening story.

    2. Discuss and summarize 2 ARTICLES.

MOVE BY MOSCOW DEPLORED IN WEST.
This article is about the economy in Russia. Russian companies often work in dollars while the small businesses work in rubles ( Russian money ). The government wants to cut off these rubles and exchange it into rubles. They giving Russians 14 days to exchange 35,000 rubles equal to 34$ dollars— for new bank notes. Its not a lot time to do all this but if they don’t do it their interest rates will be lower since they want to get rid of inflation. In some way its going to hurt the Russian economy specially the small businesses.

Company Adviser Surrenders in Widening Italian scandal.
This article is about the death of an important business man in Italy who was a chairman for a conglomerate. Their family financial adviser was arrested since he was involved in an corruption scandal involving Italian politicians and businessmen. The family adviser has a $20 dept and it is being investigated.

    Part 3 : Think

Before doing this activity were you aware of any of these events and that they occurred on your birthday?

No i never thought that things could be some way similar as its happening now.

Is there anything about any of these events that surprises you?

Yes. How corruption stills one part of many people’s life. But the problem is that its also affecting innocent people that are just planing to have a better future for them and their family.

Do you have any connections, large or small to any of these events?

Yes. I connect the Move by Moscow deplored in west to economy. This is because inflation is always going to take place in a country’s economy without expecting it at all. And its going to keep affecting the producers and consumers of a country.

Do you think that any of these events had an impact, large or small, on your life or those of your family members that you know of?

I think that the Article about corruption had a large impact on my life and those of my family members because its a lesson that it taught us to be aware of who we give out trust to. We first need to search and find out with who we getting involve with before we regret it .

What conclusions can you draw about what your city/town was like on the day you were born based on this newspaper? What other observations can be made?

I like this picture because it relates to sociology. Since sociology study social groups and society. This picture represents how the industrial revolution affected the people in a sociiety. Meaning to say that while factories were running out, carbon dioxide was released and this created many health problems among the workers and people outside including us. Which with the time this became a public issue.
